Digi-Key is a US-based company providing online purchase and distributing electronic components to 140 countries in the world. Digi-Key ships products from one location in Thief River Falls, MN, USA. Usually Digi-Key has stock and can ship the order to customers within a day or two.
I am an Engineer in electronic industry located in Singapore. In the past, I bought electronic parts from Digi-Key for my design activities. The overall experience with Digi-Key was reasonably good. However, when I needed local support, I could not get local support effectively as Digi-Key apparantly did not have support people located in Asia. Usually, I would send email through their website for getting the technical support which was sometimes not effective. In addition, I usually could not get the shipment within few days as it will take time for shipping products from US to Singapore.
Farnell Asia
Recently, my friend introduced me Farnell in Singapore. I have purchased few times from Farnell Singapore through their website and my service experience was excellent. Farnell Asia recently has expanded the operation very quickly in Asia and has setup number of offices in Asia including India and China. Farnell has stocking locations in number of countries in Asia including Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. I was told they also have stocking locations in India and China now.
Farnell Asia can transact the order in local currency in number of countries in Asia. Farnell Singapore can dispatch the shipment to me almost within a day and usually I could receive the shipment within 24 hours in Singapore. Also, they provide the technical support hotline in Singapore so that I could call Farnell and access their technical service when I need. Farnell also provide local service in other Asia countries as well.
The service experience with Farnell is excellent and I highly recommend to make online purchase from Farnell.
